This year features a 3 round mock draft and with the draft less than 10 days away on April 28, 2011 lets get started! Enjoy!
ROUND 1
1. Carolina (2-14): Cameron Newton, QB, Auburn
Many believe that Cam Newton is slowly solidifying himself as the #1 pick in the draft. This is not necessarily because he is the best player but because of the unwritten NFL rule that if you pick at the top of the draft and don’t have a franchise QB, you need to go get one.
2. Denver (4-12): Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
This draft is stacked at the defensive line position and the Denver Broncos grab the cream of the crop in their weakest position. Dareus is a very very good player who 319 lb frame will help solidify the Broncos defensive line immensely.
3. Buffalo (4-12): Von Miller, LB, Texas A&M
After a spectacular NFL combine last month, many people considered Von Miller to be the best player in the entire draft. If Carolina steers away from Newton, don’t be surprised to see Miller go #1. Miller is the full package of size and speed and will fit greatly in a weak Buffalo defense.
4. Cincinnati (4-12): Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
I could see Cincinnati going a number of different ways with this pick. I wouldn’t be surprised or unhappy to see AJ Green here. I wouldn’t balk at the idea of Patrick Peterson either if he falls, since Joseph may be gone and Peterson is considered the best overall player. I think the best QB’s of this draft sit at the top of round 2 and would love to see the Bengals grab a position of need outside QB here at #4. I firmly believe Newton and Gabbert both have bust written all over them and would be upset by selecting either. Fairley is another one year wonder, but gives the Bengals a mean streak player who can get after the quarterback.
5. Arizona (5-11): Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri
Gabbert would be a dream come true for Arizona if he fell all the way to #5. With the flop of Derek Anderson last year and the small upside of late round pick John Skelton, Arizona is still searching for the signal caller that can mesh with Larry Fitzgerald and bring the team back the playoffs.
6. Cleveland (5-11): Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
Bowers is the best DE in the draft and an intriguing player who could find himself going anywhere from #1-10. I think the furthest he falls is to Cleveland at #6 simply because of his upside. Bowers has been struck by injuries especially to the knee but can provide an elite player to a mediocre Browns pass rush.
7. San Francisco (6-10): Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
The SF 49ers would be salivating to see Peterson fall into their lap this late in the first round. Cornerback is the team’s biggest need and Peterson is by far the best. He just may be the best player in the entire draft. His size and speed mold him into a potential shut-down corner for many years. His ability as a return specialist is also an added bonus if a team finds the need to utilize him as such.
8. Tennessee (6-10): Cameron Jordon, DE, California
Im sure Tennessee wishes Bowers would fall to them here, however, they instead select the next best DE available in Jordon. Jordon is a big strong end who has the ability to play inside along the interior or slide outside and rush the quarterback. Jordon’s arrival could add to the Titans long line of DE’s of late who have made a living at getting to the quarterback.
9. Dallas (6-10): Anothony Costonzo, OT, Boston College
It was evident after last season and the injury to Tony Romo that the greatest need for the Cowboys this season was along the offensive line. Dallas could select USC OT Tyron Smith here, but Costonzo is a more intelligent and fundamentally sound player who can play the blind side and protect Romo from another injury plagued season.
10. Washington (6-10): AJ Green, WR, Georgia
The Washington Redskins have more needs than Jamarcus Russell in a buffet line. For this reason, they go with best player available and that is AJ Green. Green is the top WR and has the potential making of an Andre Johnson type receiver. He is a big physical receiver who can get down the field, drops few passes, and scores a ton of touchdowns. Now all he needs is a QB to throw to him.
11. Houston (6-10): Robert Quinn, OLB, North Carolina
Houston sits in a pretty good position to take the next best player available on the defensive side of the ball. With a stacked offense and very few true needs across the board, Houston may take a flyer on a player such as Quinn. He has tremendous upside and potential to be a force in the 3-4 defense but has a great deal of question marks after sitting out all of last season for NCAA infractions.
12. Minnesota (6-10): Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
Julio Jones ran a blistering 40 yard dash at the NFL combine and that was with a broken foot. Jones is an excellent athlete, but this recent injury brings questions to his durability. Jones has the potential to be an all-pro wide receiver and with question marks surrounding Percy Harvin as well as the potential loss of Sydney Rice, Minnesota could use a weapon to stretch the field on the offensive side of the ball.
13. Detroit (6-10): Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
You can never have too many cornerbacks. The problem with Detroit is that they hardly have any at all. With CB as their biggest need, Detroit would run to the podium to select Amukamara, who is easily the 2nd best CB in the draft and has proven through the NFL combine that he can be an elite player.
14. St. Louis (7-9): Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois
St. Louis would love to see Julio Jones fall to them at #14, but I don’t think that will be the case. Instead, St. Louis goes after their second biggest position of need along the defensive line. Liuget is a bit undersized but very versatile and an excellent pass rusher who will be a large upgrade next to Fred Robbins on the defensive line.
15. Miami (7-9): Ryan Kerrigan, OLB, Purdue
Ryan Kerrigan is the type of player that every team wishes to have. He was in school 4 years and a 3 year starter at Purdue. He was a team captain with a high motor and blue collar attitude, but most of all no character issues. Kerrigan will fill a need along the Miami defense with his strong work ethic and ability to rush the quarterback.
16. Jacksonville (8-8): JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin
JJ Watt is potentially the best 3-4 DE in the entire NFL draft. In the same mold of Kerrigan, Watt is a high motor player with a blue collar attitude. He will tremendously help an ailing Jacksonville front line that had only three sacks the final five games of the regular season in 2010.
17. New England (14-2) -- from Oak: Tyron Smith, OT, USC
Smith has been linked to Dallas at #9, but could fall to NE here if Dallas goes in a separate selection. However, don’t be surprised to see Smith and Costonzo flip flop here. Smith is a massive offensive tackle projected to play the left side. His size and speed would be well served to protect Tom Brady, especially with the recent hold out problems along the line in NE last year. Either way, Belichek turns a number of offensive lineman into pro-bowlers in a short time frame.
18. San Diego (9-7): Aldon Smith, OLB, Missouri
San Diego would love to see JJ Watt fall to them, but would settle for a 3-4 OLB like Smith. Smith is an athletic pass rusher with raw athleticism and is a lock for the top 20. He is a potential double digit sack artist in waiting, even though his numbers at Missouri didn’t rate as highly due to some missed game action last year.
19. New York Giants (10-6): Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
Mark Ingram is the best player available at this point and just the type of bruising hard nosed running back Tom Coughlin likes. With questions surrounding Brandon Jacobs last season and the always growing need for multiple serviceable running backs, the Giants may jump on Ingram. If it weren’t for question marks surrounding Ingram’s knee, the former Heisman trophy winner would have been a top 5 pick.
20. Tampa Bay (10-6): Justin Houston, DE, Georgia
Tampa Bay needs help now at the defensive line position. Houston overwhelmed at the NFL combine and has been shooting up draft boards. His ability to play both the DE and OLB position makes him a viable candidate to be a versatile option in a 4-3 setting.
21. Kansas City (10-6): Phil Taylor, DT, Baylor
Kansas City may surprise some people here with the pick of Taylor, but with a number of defensive lineman flying off the board early they may get desperate to fill a large need. Taylor a big space filling tackle who is projected closer to the middle of the 2nd round but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him slide up some draft boards with the run on defensive lineman.
22. Indianapolis (10-6): Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State
Indianapolis doesn’t have a great deal of needs but would love to add depth to their offensive line. Don’t be surprised if Carimi is the pick here, but Sherrod is a very intelligent and athletic tackle. He has the agility to fit into the Colts’ zone blocking scheme and was very good in a difficult SEC stacked with pass rushers. Though he may start at right tackle, Sherrod will eventually evolve to play the blind side.
23. Philadelphia (10-6): Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado
Smith is a potential lock-down corner who would have been a potential top 10 pick if not for a variety of character issues. Smith is the 3rd best CB in a class with a large drop off after the first three. Philadelphia desperately needs a shut down corner and has never shied away from character concerns in the past.
24. New Orleans: Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa
Clayborn is an interesting player with great upside. He has minor character issues, which combined with injury concerns and down year last year could see him slip potentially out of the first round. New Orleans has a potent offense and the ability to wait on a player learn and mature for a few seasons. If Clayborn reaches his full potential, he could be a first round steal.
25. Seattle (7-9): Muhammed Wilkerson, DT, Temple
Wilkerson is a bit of an unknown after playing college at Temple and may be better suited as a DE in the 3-4 rather than a DT. However, as a 6’4 315 pound lineman he also has the potential to be a clog and anchor at the point of attack in the run game.
26. Baltimore (12-4): Leonard Hankerson, WR, Miami
The Ravens have very few needs and are attempting to solidify depth through the NFL draft. For this reason, they may reach for a young WR in order to infuse some new blood in a quickly aging receiving corp. Hankerson is not a game changing WR with blistering speed, but more of a dependable possession receiver that could be well served learning the ropes from some of Baltimore’s vets. Don’t be surprised to see Baltimore trade back for more picks here or draft Jimmy Smith is he’s available.
27. Atlanta (13-3): Nate Solder, OT, Colorado
Atlanta has what may be the best offense in the NFL. Their biggest need remains an upgrade at LT from Sam Baker. Solder is the best available OT and projects to a well developed pass blocker on the left side allowing Matt Ryan to better utilize his offensive weapons.
28. New England (14-2): Jason Pinkston, OG, Pittsburgh
New England is the only team with two first round picks and utilizes their second straight pick on the offensive line here. This pick is another attempt solidify pieces around Tom Brady and re-establish the run game.
29. Chicago (11-5): Stephen Wisniewski, OC, Penn State
Wisniewski is the only center projected with a first round grade. They would love for one of the top offensive tackles to slip to them, however, the draft doesn’t fall that way this time. Wisniewski has the potential to play center or guard at the NFL level which may help his stock.
30. New York Jets (11-5): DeAndre McDaniel, SS, Clemson
McDaniel is probably more suited as a 2nd round pick and a bit of a reach here, but New York has the biggest need in the safety position and McDaniel is the best of the bunch. McDaniel ran a poor 4.63 in the 40 yard dash, but has excellent tackling and highlight reel hitting ability that fits perfectly into Rex Ryan’s in the box style defense.
31. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4): Brandon Harris, CB, Miami
Pittsburgh is another team craving CB help and hoping one of the big three falls. Instead, they reach for a player in Harris with an average skill set hoping he can be coached to play a stout defense. If Pittsburgh looks for more of a burner, CB Davon House may go here after his 4.35 40 yard dash.
32. Green Bay Packers (10-6): Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
Carimi may go earlier, but would fit nicely with the NFL Super Bowl Champs. Carimi is a massive body and more of a run mauler type of offensive tackle, but is one of the few tackles in this draft who could play the left side and do so as a rookie from day one.

1. Washington Wizards
John Wall, PG
Kentucky- Freshman
Lightening fast guard from Kentucky that will be one of NBA's elite.
2. Philadelphia 76ers
Evan Turner, SG
Ohio State- Junior
Versatile scorer for Ohio State, can play as a guard or a forward.
3. New Jersey Nets
Derrick Favors, PF
Georgia Tech- Freshman
A lot of upside and untapped potential from this big man.
4. Minnesota Timberwolves
Wesley Johnson, SF
Syracuse- Junior
Came on strong for Syracuse after disappointing stint at Iowa State.
5. Sacramento Kings
Demarcus Cousins, PF
Kentucky- Freshman
Big physical body who will bring aggressive play and help for Tyreke Evans.
6. Golden State Warriors
Ekpe Udoh, C
Baylor- Junior
Good interior defense and a big presence in the post for Golden State.
7. Detroit Pistons
Greg Monroe, C
Georgetown- Sophomore
Monroe is sized like a Center but plays like a guard, his versatility will help.

Aminu averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds in the ACC.

Tremendous work ethic and good range for a big man.

Henry is a solid shooter who can also take it inside.

Memphis has fallen in love with Andersons work ethic and drive.

Whiteside is a 7 foot center with a 7-7 wingspan, the NBA loves size.

I don't think anyone knows what to expect from Hayward in the NBA.

North Carolina- Sophomore
Very tall and athletic but still relative unknown as to what his ceiling is.

6'10 20 year old from Cayenne, French Guyana.

A bit of a late bloomer, but again he has some size which every team needs.

Many projected Brackins to be a lottery pick in 2009.

Boston is always looking to add depth in the frontcourt.

A rare Senior in the crop, James has a high basketball IQ.

2010 NFL Mock Draft
Its finally here! The 2nd Annual www.nkysportworld.com 2010 NFL Mock Draft
With the 3 day draft quickly approaching April 22-24, we lay out the selections.
A couple notes:
* New this year: First round and Second round selections!
* This draft is loaded. Probably the best class I have seen in a long time. In addition, the number of OL prospects available is unbelievable.
* In my opinion, no star studded 1st Rd WR's exist in this draft. By that I mean, I don't think there is a guy who will be able to start from Day 1. With that said, WR Dez Bryant will be taken in round 1 and a ton of WR talent is clumped in round 2.
Here we go!
Round 1
1. St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
Bradford is not the best player in the draft. That honor belongs to Ndamukong Suh. However, he is the best QB, and QB is the most desirable position for the struggling Rams. With Donovan McNabb off the board, Bradford is the next best option. Though his past injury history is a concern, its much easier to pay #1 money to a QB than a DT.
2. Detroit Lions: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

Williams is probably the most versatile of the offensive lineman in the draft with the ability to man 4 of the 5 OL positions. He is just the player the Chiefs need to combat their aging offensive line.
6. Seattle Seahawks: Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
This is the first surprise pick of the draft. Seattle would love for Williams or Okung to hang around this long, but the odds are slim. They could reach for OT’s like Bulaga or Campbell instead, but with so many needs they reach for defensive. Morgan is the #1 DE on the board and immediately upgrades a weak pass rush.
7. Cleveland Browns: Eric Berry, FS, Tennessee
The Browns should be estatic if Berry falls this far in the draft. Berry was at one time considered the top player in the draft and is by far the best safety in a weak draft class for the position. Berry has great ball hawking instincts that you can start to build a defense around.
8. Oakland Raiders: Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
Al Davis has shown that he is willing to stick with Russell at QB. He has also shown a knack for reaching for talent. Both apply here. At the least, if he is going to stick with his QB, he makes the right move by protecting him with an OT who will give him time and open the rushing game.
9. Buffalo Bills: Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
The run on OT’s continues as Campbell becomes the 4th taken in the first 9 picks. Buffalo may reach a bit for Campbell who is not as polished as the other tackles taken; however, their need is too large to pass up. Campbell’s athleticism still gives him the ability to start on opening day.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Joe Haden, CB, Florida
The Jaguars have so many needs on the defense that they decide to go with the best player available at this point. Haden displayed great athleticism at Florida and will be a hometown favorite. Not to mention, he is the #1 CB and will immediately upgrade a weak pass defense.
11. Denver Broncos (from CHI): Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama
With the recent trade of WR Brandon Marshall, Denver may think briefly about WR Dez Bryant in this position. However, no WR in this class is worthy of a slot this high. McClain is a tackling machine and the best ILB in a draft class weak in the position. He fills an immediate need for Denver, who will look toward WR with their additional pick in Rd 2.
12. Miami Dolphins: Dan Williams, DT 3-4, Tennessee
After picking up their biggest need with the trade for WR Brandon Marshall, Miami can look to fill their hole at DT. The nose tackle position is probably the most important in the 3-4 defense and it is also the most gapping hole in Miami’s front 7. Williams will command double teams in the middle allowing for the blitzing defense to come clean off the edge.
13. San Francisco 49ers: Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers
Davis was originally thought of as potentially the best OT going into his senior season, but is now the 5th tackle taken in the draft. Davis is an enormous body with huge upside. The 49ers can reach here with multiple picks in the first round and a glaring need at OT.
14. Seattle Seahawks (from DEN): CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson
Having gone defense with their first pick, Seattle looks offense this time around. Spiller is a dynamic rusher and potential game changer not only from the RB position but also in the return game. His return ability allows him to be the #1 RB selected as well as adding lightning to a weak Seattle backfield.
15. NY Giants: Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho
With few glaring needs, the Giants select the best player available in Iupati. Not many people know about him due to his low level college choice, but Iupati plays with a mean streak and can man nearly every position on the offensive line making him a nightmare for opponents.
16. Tennessee Titans: Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State
Wilson is a physical and athletic corner that some consider to be the best in the draft. He plays a pressure-man scheme that fits directly into the Titans defense. Keep an eye on Devin McCourty (CB, Rutgers) at this slot as well, since his twin brother Jason plays for the Titans already.
17. San Francisco 49ers (from CAR): Earl Thomas, FS, Texas
By addressing offense with their first selection, the 49ers can focus on defense with this choice. They would be ecstatic to see Thomas fall to #17, but the possibility is there. Thomas is a ball-hawk and a game-changer that would start from Day 1.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
Bryant becomes the first WR taken, even though he missed last season. This shows both a slip in his draft status and the presence of a weak WR class without a true star player. Nonetheless, Bryant fills a void in the Steeler offense, which lost Santonio Holmes earlier this week. The key is to see if a potential problem child in Bryant can thrive in a city stricken currently with legal trouble.
19. Atlanta Falcons: Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri
Weatherspoon has been the pick for ATL for weeks and it looks like he could fall to them. He fits perfectly in Mike Smith’s 4-3 defense and will start at weak side OLB from day 1. Weatherspoon becomes the first LB off the board.
20. Houston Texans: Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers
With Dunta Robinson gone and a thriving Texans offense, McCourty seems to be the most logical selection. In addition, he may be the best all-around CB in the draft. This may come into handy if the Texans want to overtake Indy in the AFC South. New Orleans proved last year that Manning can be stopped with coverage in the defensive backfield and the Texans are trying to start the same philosophy.
21. Cincinnati Bengals: Taylor Mays, FS, USC
The Bengals have a ton of needs and could go in a number of different directions with this pick. I would not be surprised to see Oklahoma TE Jermaine Grisham here, but his recent injury history as well as the drafting of TE Chas Coffman last year may lead the Bengals away. Taylor Mays is a hard hitting safety and freakish athlete. He is the best player available in the draft and was viewed before this season as a potential top 10 selection. With only Ndukwe, Crocker, and Roy Williams in the safety position the Bengals are in desperate need to shore up the back line especially if they run into the injuries that plagued the position last season.
22. NE Patriots: Brandon Graham, OLB 3-4, Michigan
The Patriots love 3-4 hybrid ends that can rush the passer and drop back in coverage. Graham is no different. The Patriots feature a less than average pash rush and would immediately upgrade with this selection. Graham is a Lamar Woodley clone with game-changing ability.
23. Green Bay Packers: Sergio Kindle, OLB 3-4, Texas
Kindle is probably the most complete OLB in the draft and would fit perfectly rushing the edge in the Packers 3-4 defense. Kindle’s size and speed would compliment perfectly with OLB Clay Matthews and form a strong duo for many years to come.
24. Philadelphia Eagles: Everson Griffen, DE, USC
Griffen might be a reach at this spot but the Eagles desperately need help on the defensive side of the football at safety and DE. With no first round safeties available, Griffen becomes the next logical selection. In addition, Griffen is a high motor guy in the mold of Eagles DE Trent Cole, who has had a great deal of success in the Eagles defense.
25. Baltimore Ravens: Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama
Cornerback is definitely a position of need for Baltimore, especially with the injury to star rookie CB Ladarius Webb. Jackson is the best CB available, however, don’t be surprised if Florida State CB Patrick Robinson is the selection here instead.
26. Arizona Cardinals: Jerry Hughes, OLB 3-4, TCU
The Cardinals miss players like Karlos Dansby who can play in their hybrid defensive scheme and line up at various positions. Jerry Hughes is the type of player that can do just that. Hughes led a strong TCU defense that finished unbeaten in the college football regular season and is a logical choice to take over the reigns.
27. Dallas Cowboys: Maurkice Pouncey, OL, Florida
With few major needs, Dallas addresses an aging offensive line with the best player available. Pouncey is listed at OC, but can play both guard positions as well. He helps to solidify the Dallas OL while bringing youth as well.
28. San Diego Chargers: Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno State
With the recent departure of LaDanian Tomlinson, San Diego looks to address the need at RB early in the draft. Matthews is the best RB available and is in the mold of current Charger Darren Sproles. Matthews is a shifty all-purpose back who led the NCAA in rushing for most of the season. He may be a slight reach at this position and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chargers looked DT instead and maybe select Terrence Cody from Alabama.
29. NY Jets: Demaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech
I would not be surprised if the Jets look to trade this pick to a team wishing to enter into the back half of the 1st round. The Jets true needs at OG and OLB leave them scuffling as the best players are off the board at this point. Even with the new acquisition of WR Santonio Holmes, the Jets look for a big target and big play WR in Demaryius Thomas to take the pressure of young QB Mark Sanchez.
30. Minnesota Vikings: Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
In the same mold as formed Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn, video shots and stories of Jimmy Clausen filter television as he is left waiting for 3 hours for this selection. The Vikings biggest need is QB and they get a potential star in Clausen late in the 1st round. Hopefully, Clausen will not have to play on day 1 and will learn from future HOF QB Brett Favre.
31. Indianapolis Colts: Charles Brown, OT, USC
The Colts are looking to shore up a weak offense line by going with the best lineman available and 8th selected in the first round. The Colts have been missing a valuable LT since their championship season and hope to find one in Brown. Brown is not a polished player having started at USC as a TE, but displays massive size and athleticism to make a good NFL tackle.

With the 3 day draft quickly approaching April 22-24, we lay out the selections.
A couple notes:
* New this year: First round and Second round selections!
* This draft is loaded. Probably the best class I have seen in a long time. In addition, the number of OL prospects available is unbelievable.
* In my opinion, no star studded 1st Rd WR's exist in this draft. By that I mean, I don't think there is a guy who will be able to start from Day 1. With that said, WR Dez Bryant will be taken in round 1 and a ton of WR talent is clumped in round 2.

2009 NFL Mock Draft
Welcome to the 1st annual http://www.nkysportsworld.com/ NFL Mock Draft.
With the 2009 NFL Draft now less than a week away, it is time to make some predictions.
Round 1
1. Detriot Lions- Matt Stafford, QB GeorgiaAn NFL football team can only go as far as their defense and their quarterback. In order to actually win a game this year, Detroit needs a QB and Stafford is the best of the bunch.
2. St. Louis Rams- Jason Smith, OT Baylor
The St. Louis Rams have a ton of needs and could go a couple different directions with this pick. I would not be surprised if Aaron Curry went off the board at this spot instead of Smith. However, with the recent loss of Orlando Pace and the need for the Rams to reestablish Stephen Jackson in the run game I look for Smith to be the pick.
3. Kansas City Chiefs- Aaron Curry, LB Wake ForestAn OT would have probably been appropriate for the Chiefs at this spot as well, however, Curry seems to be the safest pick in the entire draft. With Derrick Johnson already pencilled in at MLB, Curry can be eased into the starting role by playing on the outside, a position that probably better suits him in the NFL anyway.
4. Seattle Seahawks- Michael Crabtree, WR Texas Tech
Crabtree and his foot will go a long way at determining his draft status. He played in a pass happy system at Texas Tech that may actually hurt him in his draft status. However, his college numbers don't lie and he could prove to create a solid tandem with new Seahawk TJ Houshmanzadeh.
5. Cleveland Browns- Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB TexasOrakpo is a perfect tweener type player that would fit the 3-4 system of the Browns very well. He could line up in the lineback position in pass coverage while also having the ability to get down on the line and rush the quarterback from the edge.
6. Cincinnati Bengals- Eugene Monroe, OT Virginia
The Cincinnati Bengals would be salivating if Monroe is still available when they pick at #6. Monroe is a beast of an OT and may just be the best OT in the draft. With an inability to run the football last year, an unsteady offensive line, and a battered franchise QB in Carson Palmer
7. Oakland Raiders- Jeremy Maclin, WR MizzouThe Oakland Raider defense has been pretty strong the past few seasons. It is the Raider offense that continually leads to their year in year out losing records and top 10 draft picks. Maclin is a safe pick at WR and gives Oakland not only a deep threat for strong armed QB Jamarcus Russell but also a solid kick returner as well.
8. Jacksonville Jaguars- Mark Sanchez, QB USCThis pick is starting to become a no-brainer for the Jags. If Matt Stafford happens to fall off the number 1 pick, look for the Jaguars to possibly move up to take him. Instead, they opt for the second best QB in the draft.
9. Green Bay Packers- BJ Raji, DT Boston CollegeRaji's draft stock may have fallen a bit after the recent publications regarding his positive drug test at the NFL Combine. However, he is still the best DT in the draft and DT is a position the Packers could truly upgrade.
10. San Francisco 49ers- Andre Smith, OT AlabamaFrom one player sliding down the draft board to another. Andre Smith is a mammouth of an offensive tackle and was once considered the top overall pick in the draft. Smith's recent strange behavior has made some NFL execs uneasy about selecting him, however, his destruction on the field cannot be overlooked. Andre Smith is the most interesting pick in the draft because he could become an all-pro or a major NFL bust.
11. Buffalo Bills- Brian Cushing, OLB USCCushing is the 1st of a series of USC defensive players that will be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. Though he is probably not the best of the bunch, he fills a huge need for the Bills.
12. Denver Broncos-Everett Brown, DE Florida St.The Broncos will have several high profile draft picks in this years draft after the recent trade of Jay Cutler. If Sanchez happens to drop to this spot, the Broncos would have to give him a hard look. Instead, Brown has shot up the draft charts in the past few months as a player that can play both end and outside linebacker.
13. Washington Redskins- Michael Oher, OT MississippiOher becomes the 4th OT selected in the first 13 picks. A massive OT, Oher can play both the right and left side. He has the potential to go in the top 10, but could also slide to the back of the first round. Oher isnt the elite OT that many project but he could be a very strong blocking presence for a bad offensive line in Washington.
14. New Orleans Saints- Michael Jenkins, CB Ohio St.Jenkins is the next in line on a long list of recent first round defensive backs from Ohio State. The New Orleans pass coverage is average at best, even after spending mass amounts of money and premium draft picks on the position in recent years. Jenkins has the possibility of playing corner or safety in NO so he is definitely the safe pick here.
15. Houston Texans- Tyson Jackson, DE LSUThe Texans continue to improve and lately the improvements have come through the defense. Jackson has huge upside to go along with a great combination of size and speed. He would be a definite compliment to Mario Williams rushing the quarterback.
16. San Diego Chargers- Darrius Hayward-Bey, WR MarylandHayward-Bey has the potential to be a pure #1 WR. He is still a bit raw as a WR but he will have a strong supporting cast to carry the load in the SD offense until he get grows into this role. Scouts love his blistering speed and deep threat opportunities which is why he is shooting up the draft boards.
17. New York Jets- Percy Harvin, WR FloridaIt is possible that the Jets would reach for a QB in Kansas St. Josh Freeman here. However, I think the best and most sure bet is the pick WR in this spot. Harvin gives the Jets an option to replace Laverneous Coles as well as an athletic player that could return kicks or be used in all different types of formations.
18. Denver Broncos (from CHI)- Rey Maualuga, MLB USCWith their 2nd pick in the first round, the Broncos select another player in order to shore up their shaky defense. After selecting an edge rusher in Brown with the first pick, the Broncos turn to linebacker and Maualuga with their second. Maualuga is a player with a mean streak that will intimidate wide receivers as they come across the middle.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Peria Jerry, DT MississippiThe Buccaneers could go for a CB in this spot, but DT is probably the team's most pressing need. Jerry is a bit of an unknown and has shot up draft boards lately.
20. Detroit Lions (from DAL)- Eben Britton, OT ArizonaThe Lions addressed their primary need with a QB at #1 overall. Now they look to the best tackle available in order to help protect him.
21. Philadelphia Eagles- Vontae Davis, CB Illinois
Davis has the physical tools and athleticism to be a shut down corner in the NFL. Funny how we said that about his brother and SF TE Vernon Davis as well. Based on pure skills alone, Davis is probably a top 10 player in the draft, however, his character will likely cause him to slip a bit on draft day. The Eagles are in need of a CB so Davis is their guy.
22. Minnesota Vikings-Evander Hood, DT MissouriThe Vikins had probably hoped to find an OT or WR at this position, however, those spots are hard to come by at this point in the draft. The Vikings have settled for the best player available at this point and that is Hood. Nonetheless, Hood still fills a need for the Vikings defense.
23. New England Patriots-Aaron Maybin, OLB Penn StateMaybin offers a great deal of quickness, athleticism, and upside. In addition, the Patriots love players who are able to rush the passer as a DE and drop back in coverage as a LB. Maybin is a player that does just that and will fit perfectly in the defensive sceme of NE.
24. Atlanta Falcons- Clay Matthews, OLB USCThe 3rd and final player from the USC defense in the first round. Matthews went from walk on and special team ace at USC to sure fire first round draft pick. A hard nosed, high motor player in a football family, Matthews will try to light a fire on the defense in Atlanta.
25. Miami Dolphins-Darius Butler, CB Conneticut
26. Baltimore Ravens- Connor Barwin, OLB/DE Cincinnati
Barwin may just be the surprise pick of rd 1 so I am going out on a limb here. After playing only one year at DE, Barwin displayed edge rush ability as well as speed that could land him in this spot. He fits perfectly in a 3-4 defense like the Ravens. In addition, the Ravens selected a Cincinnati player in Haruki Nakamura last season and have not been disappointed.
27. Indianapolis Colts- Hakeem Nicks, WR North CarolinaSuddently, the Indianapolis Colts are looking like an aging team with a ton of holes to fill. The Colts had hoped that players such as Maybin, Hood, and Jerry would be available here to fill glaring needs on the defensive line but that just doesnt seem to be the case. With the lose of Marvin Harrison, WR is also a position of need. Nicks is a solid possession receiver in the same mold of Harrison.
28. Buffalo Bills (from CAR via PHI)- Brandon Pettigrew, TE Oklahoma St.The Bills selected defensive with a pick earlier in the round so they may elect to go offense on this one. After the recent lose of Jason Peters, OT would be a reasonable selection here as well but all of the first round tackle talent is gone by this point. Pettigrew is far and away the best TE in the draft this year and the Bills are in major need. If they dont get him here, they wont get him in round 2.
29. NY Giants- Larry English, OLB Northern Illinois
Larry English is the unknown riser of the draft. Dont know a whole lot about him so I wont tell you a whole lot except that he will be picked here. A perfect fit in the Giants 3-4 defense.
30. Tennessee Titans- Victor Harris, CB Virginia TechVictor "Macho" Harris adds to the string of CBs taken late in the first round. The class of CB are fairly weak so this may be a bit of a reach. However, the Titans need a defensive back to couple with Finnegan on next years roster.
31. Arizona Cardinals- Knowshon Moreno, RB GeorgiaArizona must be salivating that they get their pick at RB so late in the first round. Moreno becomes the 1st and only RB taken in the first round of the draft this year. The Cardinals are in desparate need of an electric RB to take the pressure off of an aging Edgerrin James and the gun happy offense of Kurt Warner. Moreno just may make the Cardinals the team to beat in the AFC again this year.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers- Max Unger, C/G OregonThe Steelers dont have many glaring needs as the reigning Super Bowl champions. However, offensive line is still an area that they can upgrade. Ben R. gets sacked more than any other QB in the NFL, so a lineman is a good pick here. Unger can play both C and G so he is a stable option especially with the lose of Faneca two years ago.
