Cincinnati In Latest Polls

Syracuse Orange v Cincinnati Bearcats

After a methodical 47-15 rout of Rutgers on the road in the first game of the season, the Cincinnati Bearcats football team has reached the top 25. Cincinnati sits at #23 in both the AP and USA Today polls. A positive showing from the Bearcats on national TV Monday gave the team a bout of confidence and gave voters a chance to see the team without any other games on at the time. The Bearcats proved naysers wrong and showed that once again they will be a force in the Big East.

University of Cincinnati Football

Get ready for College Football to start. The University of Cincinnati looks to build on last year's Big East Championship and BCS berth. Here are some recent interesting news and notes

* UC starts off the new season on national television Monday September 7th vs. Rutgers. Pretty big game to start the season opener on the road, against a conference rival, with 10 new starters on defense.

* Last years backup quarterback and previous Notre Dame transfer Demetrius Jones has been named the team's starting linebacker. That will be interesting.

* The University of Cincinnati and head coach Brian Kelly continue to surprise by announcing impressive non-conference opponents year after year. The team announced today that it will travel to Knoxville in 2011 to play at the University of Tennessee. Bold move by the Cats but one I respect. Brian Kelly has always stuck to his word about having no fear playing against top competition. (Take note Ohio State."

“Our philosophy is to play the best possible out of conference schedule,” UC head coach Brian Kelly said. “Tennessee’s football tradition and geographic location make it a great matchup for us.”

Alex Smith NOT Decommiting from UC

It was once reported here on nkysportworld.com and throughout websites across the country that prized University of Cincinnati football recruit Alex Smith had decommited recently from the program. Im getting word out of the University of Cincinnati and from Alex Smith that this is not the case. Smith caused a stir a few weeks ago when he stated that he wished to visit other schools. However, he is still committed to the University of Cincinnati. Apparently, Smith is still being heavily recruited by schools such as Michigan and Ohio State (find that interesting and rather low since he has committed). Recently, he stated he wished to visit these schools just to ensure that UC is the right place. This does not mean that Smith will be a Bearcat come 2010, however, Smith is STILL COMMITED TO UC.

Alex Smith, a soon to be senior at Lakota West High School in Cincinnati, is widely regarded as one of the top 10 tight ends in the class of 2010. Many believe that star teammate, Jordan Hicks, will follow Smith wherever he chooses to go. Brian Kelly has his work cut out for him if he wants to keep Smith. Stay tuned for further details as they occur.
